Jeremy
Mihaka-Dyer
CEO
Jeremy has been the Chief Executive of Lake Taupo PHO
since July 2005. Since his arrival the PHO has grown rapidly and is well
placed to lead the country in the management of chronic conditions adopting
a PHO “hub” and community of “spokes” model as
envisaged by the New Zealand Primary Health Care Strategy.
Jeremy holds the portfolio for quality and performance management on
the Midland PHOs group, is a board member of Primary Health Organisations
of New Zealand and a Trustee of the Southern Lake Taupo Health Trust. Throughout
his career in the Health Funding Authority; Ministry of Health; the Capital
and Coast and Lakes District Health Boards; and the Rotorua General Practice
Group he has been a strong advocate for primary and community based service
delivery.
He holds a BA (Hons) from Otago University and a Master of Public Management
from Victoria. He was recently recognized by Victoria in their 40 influential
alumni under 40 article and hopes to one day work for the World Health
Organisation. Jeremy is married to Tina, a school teacher and has two children:
Karrick (7) and Bethany (6).

Janine
Colpman-King
Primary Health Nurse Leader
Janine grew up and spent most of her adult life in Palmerston
North, until she moved to Taupo at the end of 2005. She trained as a nurse
at Palmerston North Hospital receiving her registration in 1983. She continued
to work at Palmerston North Hospital post registration in Men’s Medical
and in the Maternity Unit.
Janine’s Primary Health Care Nursing roles have included Age Care,
Practice Nurse, Independent Nurse Contractor, Mobile Community Nurse and
her current role as Nurse Liaison/Primary Health Nurse Leader.
She has completed her Registered Nurse to Batchelor of Nursing in 2005
and is currently completing her Post Graduate Nursing Certificate. Janine
has three children Rawiri and Pita who remained in Palmerston North and
Elizabeth who also moved to Taupo.
Karen Akhtar
Family Nurse & Clinical Team Leader
Karen was born at the Devonport Naval Base Hospital and moved as an infant
to live and grow up in Papakura, South Auckland. She qualified in 1984
as a Registered Comprehensive Nurse and soon after moved to rural bliss
in Taumarunui.
There she worked at Taumarunui Hospital for 22 years and held several
nursing positions including Staff Nurse, Night Supervisor, Infection Control
Practitioner and Clinical Resource Nurse, finally becoming the Manager
of Taumarunui Hospital and Community Health Team in 2001. After 5 years
in that role, she decided to change and in September 2006 joined the PHO
in a new role as Clinical Co-ordinator. This involves developing and implementing
clinical projects, facilitating training and education and leading the
clinical team. The role has a main focus on co-ordinating the implementation
of the Chronic Care Management Plan, Healthright, across the district.
She obtained a Bachelor of Nursing and Post Graduate Diploma in Health
Services Management. More recently, she has started study towards a Post
Graduate Diploma in Nursing, with a goal of completing a Masters in Nursing.
She is married to husband John, and they live in Whareroa, on the south-west
shores of Lake Taupo, and have four grown children and a grand-daughter.

Michele
Preston
Office Manager & Personal Assistant to the CEO
Michele arrived in New Zealand with her husband and
three year old daughter Tui, in 2004, having fallen in love with the country
a few years before. She now works as the Administrator for the Lake Taupo
PHO, managing much of the office day to day business and whatever else is
thrown her way.
With two years experience now under her belt, she is enjoying being involved
in company’s growth and expansion within the community. Michele and
her family are all enjoying the Taupo lifestyle and can be often seen on
the lake looking for the illusive trout!
Anna
Dawson
Family Nurse
Anna registered as a nurse in 1987, and has worked
in various fields of nursing since then. Her specialty is as a cardiac
nurse, although for the past 10 years she has worked in a general ward,
most recently
at Taupo Hospital, as clinical nurse leader. Prior to that she held a
position at Taumaranui, so is used to being a jack-of-all-trades.
She joined the team at Lake Taupo PHO at the beginning of 2007 as a family
nurse for chronic care management in Turangi. The role is her first primary
health care position and she tells us, she is thoroughly enjoying it.
Currently, Anna is studying at Wintec in Hamilton for a Master of Nursing
qualification and has already completed a Post Graduate diploma. She has
two children aged 12 and 10, to her husband Paul. Family life is busy with
children’s sport, drama and recreational activities that include
skiing, sailing and water skiing.
Jodi Mehrtens
Community Dietitian
Jodi joined with PHO team in 2007, as a Clinical Dietitian. Originally
from Christchurch, she has lived all over New Zealand, more recently in
Palmerston North, Wellington and for the last 18months here in Taupo.
Her role with the PHO involves dealing in personal health with respects
to Chronic Care Management – specifically this involves diabetes,
heart disease and respiratory disease.
As well as being a Dietitian, she is also a trained cook. Most weekends
are spent helping her partner with his livestock.
Josephine Davis-Wheaton
Family Nurse
Josephine has lived in Taupo for the last 12 years and works as the Family Nurse – Chronic Care Management, in Mangakino
for the PHO.
She trained as a Registered Nurse at Northland Polytec and has worked
extensively in both the secondary and primary health sectors.
Originally from Northland, she likes to get back there as much as she
can, to catch up with all her family who still live there. She has 3 children
who are all actively involved with sport and keep her busy. She enjoys
the lifestyle that is part of living in Taupo, including all the activities,
the outdoor attractions and the central location.
